Install PaperStyle: Digital Notebook

A short guide for Mac and Windows. It takes about two minutes, and you only do it once.

Why do I see a warning?
Mac and Windows show a warning the first time you open an app whose small independent maker has not yet bought the yearly “verified developer” certificate. PaperStyle: Digital Notebook is made by Amastran NET, and we have not bought one yet. The warning is about who the maker is, not about a problem in the app. Your notebooks stay on your own computer.
Download only from your Whop page or amastran.net/apps/paperstyle-digital-notebook. If a file came from anywhere else, do not open it.

On a Mac

  1. Open the zip you downloaded (many browsers open it for you), then open the .dmg file inside the folder and drag PaperStyle Digital Notebook onto the Applications folder.
  2. If dragging does not work: right-click PaperStyle Digital Notebook, choose Copy, open Applications from the Finder’s Go menu, then choose Edit > Paste Item. Then eject the installer disk and open PaperStyle from Applications (it cannot update itself when opened from the disk).
  3. Open Applications, then open PaperStyle Digital Notebook.
  4. A message says Apple could not verify the app. Click Done (not Move to Trash).
  5. Open the Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security.
  6. Scroll down to Security. Next to the message about PaperStyle Digital Notebook, click Open Anyway.
  7. Type your Mac password (or use Touch ID), then click Open.

If you do not see Open Anyway, open the app once more and look again. The button only shows for about an hour after you try. Still stuck? Open Terminal (Command + Space, type Terminal, press Return), paste this line, press Return, then open the app again:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/PaperStyle Digital Notebook.app"

On Windows

  1. Right-click the zip you downloaded and choose Extract All, then click Extract.
  2. Open the Setup file inside the new folder (do not run it from inside the zip).
  3. If you see Windows protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.
  4. Follow the installer. PaperStyle: Digital Notebook opens when it is done.

Next: your email and your license

Open PaperStyle: Digital Notebook. The first screen asks for your email address: type it, click Email me a code, then type the code from the email. This starts your 14-day free trial. Already bought PaperStyle? Click I already bought PaperStyle at the bottom of that screen instead, then the button that says … by email. Type the email you bought with, click Send recovery code, type the code and click Continue. If that email has more than one license, choose which one to use on this computer.
